Recovering from Your Mommy Makeover

Posted on March 18, 2018 under Body Procedures

After pregnancy and childbirth, many women feel uncomfortable with the appearance of their body due to loose hanging skin in the abdominal, volume loss in the breasts, and areas of stubborn fat. Deciding to undergo a mommy makeover to restore your pre-pregnancy body can be a major, life-changing decision. But as a mom who has kids to take care of, it’s no wonder why recovery is one of the most asked about parts of the mommy makeover procedure. Here’s what you need to know about your recovery so you can be well prepared and be back to your normal routine as soon as possible!

You’ll need assistance for the first few days

The first few days after your mommy makeover procedure should consist of plenty of rest and sleep. You will also experience the most discomfort during this time and will be restricted from bending and lifting. To ensure that you can focus on resting, have someone there to help with your daily chores, especially taking care of small children, and to assist you with anything you need.

Expect some discomfort for the first week

The amount of discomfort you experience will depend on the procedure you chose and your pain tolerance, however, some degree of discomfort can be expected during the first week of recovery. This can be managed with a prescription from your surgeon, over-the-counter pain medication, and ice packs. It is also normal to experience some tightness in the stomach and breasts, swelling and bruising, and numbness. The first week will likely be the toughest part, but don’t get discouraged and remember why you had the procedure in the first place.

Plan for two to four weeks off work

This might seem like a long time, but because a mommy makeover combines many procedures, recovery can a little longer. Its important to make the necessary arrangements with your work so you can have the proper amount of time to rest and recover at home. The less strenuous your job is, the sooner you can get back to work.

The exact length of your recovery and what to expect will depend on the procedures you need and the techniques used. Your board-certified surgeon can go over your procedure and expected recovery in more detail so you can feel fully prepared.
