What is PRP?

Platelet-rich plasma, also called PRP or ‘Liquid Gold’, is one of the biggest trends in the non-surgical industry for its effective results and versatility. It’s derived from a blood sample by separating plasma from the red and white cells using a centrifuge. This plasma contains platelets which are rich in growth factors, which are proteins naturally found in the body and are responsible for cell activity and rejuvenation. It can also contain stem cells and cytokines. These will expedite healing and cause superior collagen and elastin remodeling and production.  When PRP is injected into the skin after microneedling (also famously called the Vampire Facial), it can jumpstart your skin’s cell turnover and collagen production through controlled wounding. This can usually be accomplished in a quick, 30-minute treatment session, depending on your skincare goals and treatment area size.

Who is a Candidate?

Many patients and skin types can benefit from PRP treatments because of its ability to rejuvenate the skin and address many different concerns like signs of aging. During a consultation, it’s important to discuss your medical history and any health concerns related to blood and PRP treatments. PRP treatments work best when used regularly, meaning it can easily fit into your regular skincare regimen. Many patients prefer it because of its low risk of reaction because it uses their own blood sample and cells to rejuvenate and refresh the skin. If you feel like you will be uncomfortable with the blood draw process, our medical professionals can ensure that you’re accommodated and relaxed during the process.

Results and Recovery

PRP treatments require no downtime, and you can return to your regular schedule immediately afterwards. You may experience some redness, but this usually subsides within the day. You might also experience some bruising at the injection site. Most patients see results after their first session, with a noticeable improvement in texture, glow, and brightness. However, these results continue to improve over the course of the following months, especially as you continue to undergo treatments. Most patients benefit from a series of treatments spaced one month apart, which can also be combined with additional skincare treatments like dermaplaning or microdermabrasion. Our skincare specialists can also recommend the best in physician-grade products to supplement your at-home regimen for best results.
